Sharon Update. Nov 28th - Dec 2nd.

 


Hello friends and family, 


Wow...what a week!  Actually, what a month. November is usually one of celebrations for our family.  Many birthdays and other significant occasions occur in this month.  And while we did celebrate in modest ways it was just hard to 'dance' in many ways in light of this cancer journey that we are on.  

Sharon was admitted into the hospital on Monday, November 21st.  She was discharged from the hospital on December 1st, just in time for our next chemo treatment late that morning.  We don't need to get into all the details but Sharon's time while admitted was full of encouragement and discouragements.The ugliness of cancer is just ...well ugly.  It truly is 'sickening' to see this disease make one ill. Frankly it was hard for me (Dean) to see Sharon in despair. 

As we approached Dec 1 there was a sense of hope and anticipation....not that anyone looks forward to chemo.  

A pause now - a word about medical professionals., nurses, doctors, volunteers, psws etc.  Thank you! Thank you!  You are true heroes and we were the recipients of your service, care, compassion and skill.  Bravo to you all!  

After our chemo session we were so glad to be headed home.  Home sweet home right?  Yes and no. Cancer doesn't take a break even when you desperately need one. The pain, nausea and losses take its toll.  You pray. You wonder. You cry.  You doubt and yet you still choose to have faith in people and a loving God.  That is our choice...as difficult as that is.

We have been reminded of the Hope candle and of advent - the celebration of the coming of our Emmanuel "God with us".  And so that is where we sit - caught up in a story of hope despite the chapters of despair.    

We remain incredibly humbled by your love, expressed in wonderful ways.  Your gifts, meals, cards, e cards, time, thoughts and prayers are so helpful.  We can't do this without you.

Hello family and friends, Thank-you for your prayers and thoughts. Sharon signed off on our last post with a hopeful statement, 2023 is going to be a good year! We are still hopeful, but discouraged. This update will be brief. 2023 has brought many challenges and difficult experiences. And we are only two weeks into the month of January. Our fourth round of chemo was incomplete.  Our slow drip bottle of chemo had a kink in the line and didn't deliver the chemo fully. We have had numerous days and evenings dealing with fever (which means infection somewhere) and this has resulted in trips to emerg.   Our latest (5th) round of chemo was supposed to be this past Thursday but it was postponed due to fever the evening before. We will have chemo next Thursday instead, and with that a new bi-weekly schedule.    We have some tests coming up this week (Wednesday) - X-rays, bone scan, etc. We continue to appreciate your prayers.  Please pray against infecti...

Sharon Sherk Health Update

Preamble I want to thank so many of you for your care and your concern for Sharon and our family.  I have sought the help of my tech savvy son Darryl to put together a blog…that will feature weekly updates of our story.  We will seek to post on Sunday evenings.  Caregiving for Sharon is a 24/7 job and privilege for me.  Coordinating communications…not so much. So this is our answer to not emailing hundreds of people with messages.  Thank you again for standing with us in a unique way…with your thoughts and prayers.   Some background to our story… Sharon has not been feeling well since our holidays back in mid August.  We now know why.   Back on September 30th Sharon was encouraged to go to Emerg by our family doctor.  After a battery of tests, including ultrasound and ct scan the Drs. came back to us with a prognosis that was scary.  They had also ordered a liver biopsy...which occurred on October 13th.   On October 25th, We me...

Final Sherk Update March 15th , 2023

Hello friends and family, The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 How are you? Can I not answer that question? How about, “not good.” I am brokenhearted and crushed in spirit. I’m not trying to be rude. Just being honest. It’s been almost three weeks since Sharon was embraced by the loving and healing arms of Jesus. By faith, I’m holding on to this vision and promise. By faith, I long for the closeness of God while in this tempest. Oh, how I miss my soulmate and my best friend. Sharon, I see you everywhere and yet you are nowhere in sight. My experience of grief has never been so intense, so life changing, so painful. My heart aches. Our heart breaks. My emotions are all over the place.
